Understanding the Challenge

The Situation

Initially, a small package of care supported Jancie and her husband at home.

Jancie lives at home with her husband and has Multiple Sclerosis. Initially, she was supported through a small package of care alongside her husband’s day-to-day support.
At this stage, care involved three visits per week. The aim was to provide practical assistance, support Jancie’s routines, and give her husband regular respite, helping them both to manage safely at home.

A Sudden Development

A Change in Needs

Jancie’s condition declined unexpectedly, requiring additional support.

Tasks that had previously been manageable began to require more support, and some aspects of care could no longer be provided safely by one person. Her husband became understandably concerned about how quickly additional support could be arranged and whether Jancie would be able to remain at home safely.

Putting Support in Place

How We Responded

A reassessment allowed care to be quickly adapted to meet Jancie’s changing needs.

AliceCare@Home prioritised a reassessment of Jancie’s needs and worked closely with her husband and the professionals involved in her care.
This included a multi-agency approach to ensure support was planned safely and in line with Jancie’s changing needs. Communication remained clear and consistent throughout.
Following reassessment, care was adapted quickly to include:

  • Three care visits every day
  • Double-handed care for all visits
  • A consistent care team familiar with Jancie’s needs and routines

Care was reorganised promptly so that:

  • Jancie could continue living safely at home
  • Her husband was no longer managing complex care alone
  • Decisions were clearly explained and agreed at each stage
The Outcome

The Outcome

Enhanced care allowed Jancie to continue living safely at home.

Jancie’s care arrangement has since stabilised, and the enhanced care package remains in place on an ongoing basis.
She continues to live at home, supported by carers who understand her needs, routines, and preferences. Her husband has reassurance that care is reliable, responsive, and delivered with dignity and respect
