Live-in Care Supporting Safety, Reassurance, and Independence at Home.
How live-in care provided stability and reassurance when urgent support was needed at home.
Client Profile
Age: 77
Care type: Live-in care, 24-hour support
Living situation: Living at home, supported by family
The Situation
Linda lives in her own home and has dementia and anxiety. Prior to AliceCare@Home becoming involved, she was being supported almost around the clock by her daughter, who was doing her best to help her mother remain independent at home.
Following a hospital stay, Linda’s condition worsened. Her confidence reduced, her anxiety increased, and it became clear that her care needs had changed. AliceCare@Home initially became involved to provide additional support and reassurance while Linda settled back at home, and to offer respite for her daughter.
An Unexpected Change
Linda’s daughter had a planned holiday and, to ensure her mother’s safety, had arranged a short respite stay in a care home.
Just 48 hours before admission, the care home experienced a Covid outbreak and cancelled all new admissions. This left the family with very little notice and an urgent need to put alternative support in place so Linda could remain safe at home
How We Responded
AliceCare@Home acted quickly to arrange a temporary live-in carer to support Linda in her own home during her daughter’s two-week absence.
This immediate response meant that:
Linda could remain in familiar surroundings
Her daily routines were maintained
Her daughter could go on holiday knowing her mother was safe
During this period, it became clear that Linda required a higher level of support than first anticipated. She was waking several times each night and needed regular reassurance and supervision.
Planning Ongoing Support
Multi-agency discussions took place to fully understand Linda’s needs and ensure support was appropriate and sustainable.
Linda expressed a clear wish to remain in her own home. After careful consideration of the available options, it was agreed that 24-hour live-in care would provide the safest and most consistent support. This arrangement also allowed Linda’s daughter to step back from a full-time caring role while remaining closely involved.
The Outcome
Linda now receives ongoing live-in care, supported by two live-in carers working on a two-week rotation.
This arrangement provides:
Continuity and familiar faces
Overnight reassurance
Support with dementia and anxiety
Ongoing peace of mind for her family
Linda continues to live at home, supported by carers who understand her routines and needs. Her daughter is able to focus on being a daughter rather than providing 24-hour care.
What the Family Said
“When everything changed at such short notice, AliceCare@Home stepped in immediately. Knowing there was someone living in with Mum meant she could stay at home, which was so important to her. The care has been calm, consistent, and reassuring, and it’s made a huge difference for both of us.”
